The blaring music and flashing lights of Saint Laurent’s men’s and women’s show last night in Los Angeles made it difficult to hone in on the exquisite details found on most of Hedi Slimane’s 93 runway looks. A closer look this morning revealed couture-grade embroideries of stars and galaxies, gold-trim fur coats, and Deco brooches in jade and crystal. But the accessory that will really get the blood pumping is a metal bracelet worn by Grace Hartzel that depicts nude male and female figures mid-coitus. Technically speaking, I think they’re performing in “The X Position”—Google that at your own risk. The erotic bracelet was one of several subtle and less-so sexualized tropes in the collection. Look 48’s bomber jacket, for example, featured a Marquis de Sade–inspired floral embroidery with some very masculine pistils; it was worn with jeans so skinny, they might qualify as a sexy motif in and of themselves.
