Spring’s pretty chokers were chased out of the park at Alexander Wang’s Fall show by buckled dog collar necklaces topping ensembles for “bad” girls, i.e., errant private school types who cut classes and dated guys you wouldn’t take home to mother. Studded or not, the dog collar is a now classic alt-culture accessory that retains is outré associations with S&M and untamedness. It was popularized by punks, who were undeniably resourceful, turning everday objects like safety pins and padlocks into jewelry. Punk lost its bark when it became a mode rather than a movement, but there’s still something about a dog collar . . .
