There was a time, a generation ago, when some New York restaurants posted “No Smoking, No Poison” signs. Last night in Paris saw a winkingly French take on the slogan: Dior pulled out all the stops at the iconic nightclub Les Bains for the launch of the heady (and headstrong) Poison Girl. At 10:00 p.m., throngs of guests including Olga Kurylenko, Malgosia Bela, and Miroslava Duma had already packed in, lined up to score a selfie in the animated Poison Girl photo booth, and showered Franco-American actress Camille Rowe with congratulations on her turn as Poison Girl 2.0.
Rowe, who debuted at Dior as Robert Pattinson’s girlfriend in the Dior Homme spot, was elated. “I was so humbled and flattered. Now I’m not just the girlfriend, I’m Poison,” she offered, recounting how the Poison Girl spot was shot until 5:00 a.m. three nights in a row. “That sort of added to the whole daze-y effect,” she said. “I was going for cat eyes, and [director] Bertrand Lagros de Langeron kept telling me, “Keep your gaze down! No, not kitten—panther!”
Amid flashing pink neon lights and swirling trays of champagne, François Demachy, Dior’s exclusive perfumer-creator, related how he pushed the rose to the hilt by drawing on sugar-dipped rose petals from his hometown of Grasse, France. “It’s a traditional sweet, but I wanted to bring a certain elegance to something so gourmand. This girl wastes no time—she gets her message across now.”
“Every guy loves being bossed around,” mused English model Harvey Newton-Haydon, Rowe’s object of desire in the film. “There’s a difference between being bossed around and being ordered around. But if it’s Camille, it’s okay. I’m happy to play her accessory. I am her handbag.”
Meanwhile, anyone eager to get their hands on Poison Girl needs to hop a plane to Paris or have a bottle brought back.
