What Does a Rap Mogul Wear to Work? According to Pusha T, Whatever He Wants

Any office dress code can be difficult to abide by, but when you’ve recently taken the helm of Kanye West’s record company, the look seems essentially crucial to your productivity.

But as I spoke with rapper and new G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T at the launch of his new Adidas King Push x EQT Black Market sneaker yesterday, the stylish MC was hardly anxious about his work uniform. “In 2015? A rap mogul can wear whatever he wants!” he said, laughing. “You can wear distressed denim, Adidas, and a Dries Van Noten overcoat. You can do these things!”

That uniform of elevated sportswear was on full display last night, as Pusha held court and took to the stage wearing a paisley-print Burberry Prorsum jacket, oversize John Elliott + Co tee, black Acne Studios jeans, and The Elder Statesman bandana. Not necessarily the outfit one has come to expect of the boardroom, but this music exec looked all business, right down to the Adidas King Push EQTs. “It’s dope to wear a shoe where your name isn’t just stuck on it. I think the shoe is pretty much synonymous with what people know me for, musically, and just what I’ve been on, style-wise,” said Pusha, whose upcoming new album, King Push, drops this winter. “You get approached for endorsements all the time, and nine times out of ten, they’re not really that cool. I want people to walk into a boutique and go, ‘That’s the King Push!’ ”

And while he’ll likely never trade in his new Italian cracked-leather Adidas shoes for a pair of business-ready oxfords, Pusha does admit he’s been working on finding the best suiting for the “proper occasion” with the help of his stylist, Marcus Paul. “I was just in London yesterday, and I went to Adrien Sauvage and got fitted for suits. And we were talking about how in order to feel like a true adult, I have to have 10 tailored suits in my closet. And I don’t right now . . . but I’m going to reach that goal!”
