Look back at Opening Ceremony’s elaborate New York Fashion Week events and you get the sense that Carol Lim and Humberto Leon know the meaning of a life well lived. They’ve put Ferraris on the catwalk, created a dripping chocolate wall, staged a play in lieu of a presentation, and exhibited their friend Spike Jonze’s photographs in a Chelsea gallery. With a résumé like that, you’d think it might be hard for the pair to outdo themselves season after season, but for Spring 2016, they plan to give life in a whole new way, with a massive garden of plants and vegetables.

Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s visions of utopic gardens, Opening Ceremony is staging its Spring 2016 show amid an elaborate living garden set, created in collaboration with the architect’s foundation and Edible Schoolyard NYC. Models will weave through the flora and fauna in the September 13 show—but that’s not the last you’ll hear about these leafy greens. Following the presentation, the plants will be donated to four New York City public schools, where they’ll be used to help educate children about healthy eating and agriculture.
