“It’s like an explosion at Ladurée!” said Haider Ackermann with a laugh, remarkably calm backstage before this morning’s show, where everything but the clothes took a backseat to the macaron-hued hair pyrotechnics.

Those coifs came courtesy of Kamo, who had worked up something from the wild side. “They called me in Tokyo and asked me to bring color, but I had no more information,” the conceptual hair whiz recounted. “So I came with something more classic, and when I saw what he wanted, it was like—‘ahh, let’s do it!’” Then he got down to business, picking up on the collection to put together a palette of sky blue, anise green, orange, pink, and lavender strands. “It’s not really punk; it’s soft and nice,” Kamo said, grasping for descriptives before settling on “elegant punk.”

“It feels like we’re these exotic birds, but maybe more phoenix than parakeet,” offered Aymeline Valade. “I’m really grateful to Haider, because my whole look is totally me.” Added Anna Cleveland, “It’s very cool, because the whole message just says, ‘This is what I wanna rock.’” With colorful hair still maintaining its hold on Paris Fashion Week’s street style stars, expect to see more of it soon.
