It’s hard to put a finger on exactly what made Lanvin’s chignons for the runway tonight feel like a must-try sensation. Was it their spiky proportions, their off-kilter cool, their irrepressible Parisian charm? Well, yes. But ultimately, we’d have to chalk up that mysterious X factor to a spiky set of bangs and a finishing touch in the form of one highly French bow. Backstage, hairstylist Guido Palau was pulling the hair into a ponytail, then twisting the lengths up into a messy roll and pinning it. The trick, he said, was to leave the ends splaying out slightly over the crown, “almost like a little set of bangs.” After blasting it with Redken’s Triple Take hairspray, he tied in a ribbon—in shades of black, lavender, olive, or rust that had been color-coordinated to each model’s look. “She’s eclectic, a funny little character, very Lanvin-esque,” he said, searching for a way to pinpoint its subtle allure. Not that we needed any convincing. Because when it comes to upping our hair game this weekend, dear reader, we have just found the definitive solution.
