Pyper America Smith may only be on her first Fashion Week, but she’s already an expert where it counts. As one-fourth of band the Atomics, Smith rocks out with siblings Starlie Cheyenne, Daisy Clementine, and Lucky Blue when she isn’t booking campaigns for Moncler or editorials—like our “Good Times” story. While she admits she’s still getting her fashion education, Smith has already developed a major presence on social media, a taste for Saint Laurent, and an understanding of what it takes to make a killer street style moment. Get to know this rising star here before she becomes the next big thing.

It’s all about networking.
“I’ve mostly been excited to meet the casting directors, because all the good stuff goes through them. I think it’s really important to have good relationships with who you work with. I’m also just excited to see what comes from Fashion Week, what I book, where I get to travel.”

The runway is a rush.
“I loved the attention so much. The actual walk down the [Cushnie et Ochs] runway felt amazing!”

What sibling rivalry?
“I feel so lucky that I get to work with my siblings, because we’re all close in age and we’re all really friends anyway. So it’s like, when I book a job with Lucky—who seems to be the one I book the most with—it’s just, like, the most fun time, it’s just like working with your best friend. My favorite was when we shot in Iceland together for the Moncler campaign, just because it was so surreal, and then to be there with someone that you already knew and already were comfortable with, it was just a million times better. I wish I could work with them every day.”

She’s actually social on social media.
“I love commenting back to people on my [Instagram] photos because the reactions are so sweet.”

Her Hollywood moment is just over the horizon.
“Ever since I was young, I’ve taken acting classes, and I’m really into that side of the entertainment business. I’ve always been interested in being in front of some sort of camera. I guess you could say I’ve wanted to work in this kind of industry since I was very little.”

As a bass player, she takes her music references seriously.
“I’ve been listening to the Black Keys lately while walking around to castings and stuff. That band is an inspiration for the Atomics. I also listen to Honne, I really like his sound, and his voice is cool. As much as it’s important to listen to new music, I think it is great to always go back to the old stuff, too. I grew up on the Beach Boys and the Beatles, so I listen to their old albums in between newer alternative and indie rock.”

Cass Bird left an impression.
“It’s always an honor to work for Vogue, and shooting and talking with Cass [Bird] was the best, I love her. We talked about her cute fam and how cool she is. I want to be her when I grow up.”
