Change was afoot at Fall 2016’s London Fashion Week. Some brands left the schedule altogether (Jonathan Saunders, Thomas Tait), others returned (Alexander McQueen), and more debuted to high praise (Charlotte Olympia). As we head into Milan Fashion Week, catch up on the biggest stories out of London, here.
After 15 years at Paris Fashion Week, the Alexander McQueen brand crossed the Channel for a show at London Fashion Week. It was Sarah Burton’s dreamiest and most feminine showing yet, filled with Surrealist symbols, embellished gowns, and proper duvet outerwear that could really get a girl dreaming.
John Galliano, Alber Elbaz, and more of fashion’s finest turned out to celebrate the 90th birthday of legendary retailer Joan Burstein. The affair marked a rare outing for Galliano (who doesn’t even take a bow as the creative director of Maison Margiela) and Elbaz’s first fashion event since parting ways with Lanvin in October.
Sure, Marc Jacobs is a New York Fashion Week fixture, but the designer popped up at the Fashion East show to support his former design assistant and rising talent Amie Robertson of A.V. Robertson.
Natalia Vodianova hosted the party of the week, a carnival-themed fete for her Naked Heart Foundation. The affair raised more than £600,000 for the charity, and also gave away a couple of Repossi rings and LV bags in the process.
Johnny Coca showed his first collection for Mulberry at London Fashion Week. The former Céline accessories designer might have another hit bag on his hands, too. Stay tuned for where this tote turns up next.
