Take a peek around London Fashion Week and chances are your eyes will land on a lass in a Shrimps faux-fur jacket. The vibrant toppers have become an It-girl favorite, with fans in Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, Adwoa Aboah, and more of London’s best-dressed set. And while designer Hannah Weiland is continuing to grow her furry empire—her Fall 2016 collection features some covetable pink-and-black striped numbers—she’s also branching out with a capsule collection of silk pieces she’s deigned Shrimps Silkies.
“I did a small silk pajama collaboration with the brand Poplin a couple years ago, and I felt like I wanted to expand more on the silk idea and move into ready-to-wear with it,” Weiland told Vogue.com over email. The result is an 18-piece range of ivory separates adorned with pea green and muted coral illustrated face patterns. The visages on the pieces range from Kewpie doll–esque to straight-up punkish, and have become as much of a Shrimps signature over the years as are the fauxs, having appeared as patches, intarsia designs, and pins on previous items. As with most Weiland creations, the quirk factor in the silk separates is high, but even a minimalist could find a way to incorporate these pieces into her wardrobe. (The lookbook, for example, proposes styling them with sleek white turtlenecks or cropped ivory jeans.)
Weiland’s full range of delicate rompers, dresses, and blouses will arrive in stores and in Shrimps’s e-store this March, though you can get a first look at the collection here.
