Cate Blanchett is one of the fashion industry’s most sought-after actresses and it’s easy to see why. She can wear jeans and T-shirt with the same grace and polish as a Givenchy couture dress. Her commitment to pushing the boundaries of red carpet style has been consistent—remember the John Galliano floral tattoo-back dress she wore to the Oscars in 1999? And over the weekend, at Harvey Weinstein’s pre-BAFTA fete, Blanchett took a chance on a new label on the haute couture scene.
Sporting a look from Aouadi, Blanchett wore a dress that featured intricate metallic embellishments that do away with the need for jewelry almost altogether. A fitted bodice created a flattering silhouette, while simple sheer shoes grounded the look with contrast and texture. And given that Blanchett wore a Yacine Aouadi design to the New York Film Festival, maybe she’ll surprise everyone come Oscar night, and step out in one of the young Frenchman’s frocks again.
