The designer’s life story—rough East End boy makes it on the international fashion scene through the sheer force of his talent (and a guardian angel named Isabella Blow)—is one of epic, and in the end tragic, proportions. His journey was brightened by the women around him, which expanded from his immediate family to a self-created fashion clan that included aristocrats, models, and colleagues.
