It’s a new year, with new beginnings. And there’s much to look forward to in 2016 already: time with family and friends; personal growth and reflection; the release of Fuller House on Netflix; and, for a certain type of music fan, the most exciting news ever. Yes, that’s right, after years of broken promises and various scandals—including but not limited to nearly breaking up onstage, massive fan riots, and a tumultuous history of egregiously late or canceled performances—Guns N’ Roses announced that Axl Rose and Slash are slated to be getting back together for the first time since 1993 to headline Coachella, followed by a possible summer stadium tour. Which brings us to the real question: Obviously you’re going, but what are you going to wear?
Frankly, we think there’s no time like this momentous example of rock history in the making to indulge your inner Penny Lane and go full-on groupie in a concert tee. And when it comes to concert tees, well, they’re not all made equal. So we’ve searched far and wide to find the best vintage shops to outfit you in the coolest throwback gear. (And for the die-hard fan, the band has even gotten in on the action, curating a selection of pieces using vintage throwback logos available on their website.) And between the big reunion tours, Governors Ball, and the announcement this week of the impending Panorama (already getting called the East Coast Coachella), there’s no better time to add a little hedonistic edge to your ensemble. Here, the best places to find a rock tee worthy of the talent onstage.
Wolfgang’s Vault
An online superstore of vintage concert tees, with subjects ranging from ’NSync to Led Zeppelin. With the ability to sort merchandise by decade, you really can’t go wrong here.
RainbowGasoline
This Santa Barbara, California-based Etsy shop has a massive selection of rare vintage concert tees in a range of prices.
What Goes Around Comes Around
A favorite destination for designers and celebrities alike, WGACA was built on the backs of its incomparable rare vintage rock tee collection. Be warned, though: They don’t come cheap.
Rad Vintage
Rad Vintage is an understatement. They should have named this Chicago-based concert tee mecca “We have every rock shirt your parents never let you buy as a teenager because they were afraid music was the devil.”
Kelly Cole
This well-curated L.A. stop is a celebrity favorite frequented by the likes of Behati Prinsloo and Olivia Wilde (Bradley Cooper and Adam Levine, for the men’s side of things). It’s also sure to run dry by Coachella, so think fast.
