So when it came time for Michael Kors to dress the actress for the Golden Globes last night, the designer knew exactly the look he wanted to create. “Kate is such a California girl—super-glam but laid-back at the same time,” wrote Kors over email. “I wanted the gown to be streamlined yet extravagant and demure in color but provocative in cut. It shows off Kate’s sexy athletic figure at its best.”

The result was a glittering pale blush column gown with a bold cutout above the waist. From the front, the look was the perfect complement to Hudson’s bronzy glow, accentuating her toned abs and bare décolletage.
