Anya Hindmarch Says, “Slow Down”

“Slow Down.” That bag-borne message, courtesy of Anya Hindmarch, is a pertinent slogan I shall be trying to clutch to myself in the madness that is about to ensue in the next four Fashion Weeks. Is it meant as a mindfulness reminder? Well, I’m reading it that way, but as in so many things that have seen Ms. Hindmarch power ahead in the past few seasons, it’s also a piece of double-edged British humor, in this case from her Fall collection, which is entirely based on U.K. road signage. Other commands, which could come in very handy when cutting through fashion show mayhem, include “Give Way,” “Stop,” and “Keep Your Distance.” Today, indeed, the designer has taken over the car park at Selfridges in London for the retail launch of her Service Station collection, complete with a car wash–themed photo booth and a gift kiosk for customers before they speed on their way.
