“I vividly remember when the first Star Wars film came out in the late ’70s,” said Chloé creative director Clare Waight Keller, “and even though I was quite young, the impact of how the stars of that film looked and dressed, both on- and off-screen, made a very big impression on me.” Fast-forward almost 40 years and Waight Keller is shaping the look of a new generation of Star Wars actors: She dressed Daisy Ridley, who plays the lead role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles. “I looked through many of our iconic laces and embroidered tulles to find the lightness I was searching for,” said Waight Keller. “I wanted to keep the essence of the Chloé attitude of freedom but still [be] very youthful.”
The resulting Chloé Atelier design was an intricately embellished look imbued with otherworldly romanticism. “A whole new generation of fans will be following her, so I wanted to create something that would make her feel incredible.” With ensembles like this in her fashion repertoire, Ridley is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the red carpet.
