In this case, we’re talking about Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, home of designer Dion Lee. Since launching his namesake collection in 2008, Lee has made a name for himself with structural and sleek ready-to-wear that’s favored by Jennifer Lawrence and Cara Delevingne, and now, to the delight of his fans, he’s launching his first-ever full swimwear range.
The collection plays off the smartly sporty aesthetic he’s built in his main collection. With a muted palette of black, olive, navy, and cobalt, Lee’s swimsuits come as backless maillots, T-shirt-sleeved one-pieces, and string bikinis with a decidedly un-skimpy edge. “I have always been attracted to women who have the ability to project both strength and sensuality in the way that they dress,” the designer wrote in an email. “The shapes and colors used throughout the collection invoke a discreet confidence, and an athleticism that I feel appeals strongly to this woman.”
Lee first showed the swimwear to editors as a part of his Resort 2016 collection, but you can preview the full range here. The line is stocked at Bergdorf Goodman, Shopbop, and on Lee’s own site, arriving just in time for those December jaunts to warmer climates. And if a seaside reprieve isn’t in your future? Some of Lee’s pieces, like a collared bodysuit style, will work miles from the beach all year long.
